Staff hiring to increase at Scottish technology firms

A survey from ScotlandIS shows that the majority of Scottish technology companies expect to hire more staff in 2011. 200 technology companies were surveyed and 54% reported an increase in turnover during 2010, with 79% of companies anticipating sales to continue rise this year.

Headcount increases are expected by c.63% of businesses during the next 12 months, of which 10% are planning to hire over 20 staff.

Graduate roles will also increase to become 28% of jobs in demand in the IT sector.
The digital technologies industry employs one in 20 of Scotland's workforce (more than 100,000), adding £3.4bn to the Scottish economy annually.

Polly Purvis, ScotlandIS executive director, said Scottish technology companies have been steadily growing over the past five years owing to the rise in e-commerce.
